Chalk Mural Project 2020

Suicide Awareness Fundraiser

During Covid shut down I lost multiple friends I had growing up to suicide. I wanted a means of communicating about the hard topic, and to raise money for the topic as well. I created this project to come to people in their houses, some watched from their windows, some sat in a camping chair quietly, some brought up the emotions that came with the illustration. The temporary nature of a chalk mural associated the importance of present-ness in our lives; as some of the works were completed and immediately rained on, and others were visible for up to 6 weeks. The largest being over 4 ft wide, it was a full body work out to crawl around completing all the details.

This work lives on in decor in my art booth vending decor, when people ask about the work i continue the suicide awareness conversation. The beauty of humanity in these impromptu conversations has created a community I had never imagined when I started this project in 2020. Community and self expression is always the answer.

It’s okay to not be okay

Okay, love you!
